Potter Park Zoo

Potter Park Zoo, situated at the Potter’s Park in Lansing, Michigan, enveloping an area 102 acres of land is the oldest zoo of Michigan. Housing more than 160 species of animal, including birds, mammals, and reptiles, City of Lansing owns and cares the zoo, Ingham County operates the zoo.

Potter Park Zoo takes part in the conservation projects of endangered species with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, called the Species survival Plan.

Potter Park Zoo History

Potter Park Zoo holds a grand history with its name. In 1915, Sarah Potter and J.W. donated a land of 58acres of measurement to the City Of Lansing Govt. The Potter Park Zoo stands on that piece of land today and is thus named after Potter. With the growing popularity of Potter Park Zoo and the Potters, they donated 27acres of more land to the zoo authority in 1917.

In 1927 Sophie Turner donated 17 acres of land for the expansion of Potter Park Zoo. By the year 1939 Potter Park Zoo received a footfall of 120,000 people.

Potter Park Zoo Direction

Potter Park Zoo is situated on the bank of Red Cedar River in the town of Lansing in Michigan. The zoo is about half a mile southwards of I-496. Drive south from Pennsylvania Avenue Exit 7 to reach the zoo’s entrance.

Potter Park Zoo Events
